Hand-painted in the Famille Rose palette of enamels, court scene with a group of Chinese people conversing in front of the palace entrance on the opposite side. The Interior of the bowl is a beautiful turquoise. Ca. Qing Dynasty, 19th. Century. Size d: 5 in., h: 2 1/4 in. Provenance: Collection of Edward Hyers Clayton (1886-1946). American writer and missioner. E.H. Clayton and his wife were missionaries of the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society in charge of Wayland Academy, a missionary school in Hangzhou, China from 1912 to 1942. E.H. Clayton wrote a book Heaven Below based on his living experience in China.
