Description This plate features a vivid palette of orange, red, blue and gold. In the central panel, we see peony flowers. The wide lip of the plate is adorned with a combination of both realistic and mythical flowers. Ca. 19th Century, Qing Period. D: 10.25 in. Provenance: Collection of Edward Hyers Clayton (1886-1946). American writer and missioner. E.H. Clayton and his wife were missionaries of the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society in charge of Wayland Academy, a missionary school in Hangzhou, China from 1912 to 1942. E.H. Clayton wrote a book Heaven Below based on his living experience in China.
