Provenance From the private collection of Gina Popp (American, 1964 – 2011), who worked with the Smithsonian Institution’s Resident Associate Program and received several gifts from artists with whom she was associated. Artist Biography: Liana Fernandez de Castro - Phibbs (Cuban- American, d. 2011) was born in Cuba and studied art at the Universidad de La Habana and the Academia de San Alejandro. In 1961, following the Cuban Revolution (1953-1959), led by Fidel Castro, she fled to the United States. Her work is iconic for its bright color palette and nostalgic, abstract imagery.
