Description A large antique French cobalt blue S?¨vres Porcelain rectangular plaque by Maglin, circa 1880. Very finely hand painted with scenes of horses and figures outside a castle, with gilt border, in original giltwood frame. Plaque size: 13" high x 23" wide Frame size: 16" high x 26" wide Very good condition. A. Maglin was a renowned French studio ceramic painter working at the end of the 19th century. He studied drawing in Bieuville and later become a student of the S?¨vres manufacture. Celebrated for the superb quality of his painting, his works were exhibited at a number of the international exhibitions of the period including The San Francisco California Midwinter International Exposition, of 1894. His daughter who was probably his student, also became an accomplished ceramic painter and her signature can be found on a number of Fine S?¨vres Style vases as a??C.Rochettea?? or a??Claire Maglin Rochettea??.
