Description An anitque Banteay Srei style Khmer stone Buddha head. A beautiful sculpture with stunning detail and patina.?? The Buddha is carved from sandstone.??Banteay Srei uses and develops the formulas of the Koh Ker style, the headdress with horizontal tresses, the tiara and the conical mukuta. The fullness of the forms give the face a softness which accentuates the eyes opened wide, and the fleshy and sensual lips. ??The sculpture??shows a strong sense of observation. The overall silhouette is elegant and a reminder of the Pre Angkorian Art.??A feeling of elegance and softness is given off by the whole. The Buddha has a peaceful countenance with downcast introspective eyes and a firm brow. His earlobes are stretched long from a youth spent as a prince wearing heavy gold earrings. The carving and patina is simply beautiful as you can see in the fine details of the face. Each detail is rendered perfectly. The distinctive patina of the piece is also particularly delightful. The Buddha head is loose mounted on a wood base (later).?? Provenance: Ex- private UK Collection.
