Description An antique Baphuon style Lakshmi (probably), devi or Goddess torso from Cambodia. Lakshmi is the Hindu goddess of wealth, prosperity (both material and spiritual), light, wisdom, fortune, fertility, generosity and courage. The embodiment of beauty, grace and charm. Also called Mahalakshmi, she is said to bring good luck, and is believed to protect her devotees from all kinds of misery and money-related sorrows. The statue is probably of Lakshmi and is in the Baphuon style. However, the sculpture could be of another female Devi or deity. The figure is clad in traditional Khmer Dhoti and demonstrates the ecumenical nature of iconography in the Baphuon period.
