Description An antique Bayon style Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara statue from Cambodia. Bodhisattva are beings who have gained enlightenment but postpone their ascension to nirvana to help others achieve the blessed state. The Bodhisattva has a peaceful countenance with downcast introspective eyes and a firm brow. He has a large ushnisha protuberance on top of his head symbolizing his high level of spiritual development. The rear of the stele is decorated with Sanskrit.
