The free-standing, octagonal, partially carved oak/softwood body with agate inlays, veneered in tortoiseshell and partially ebonised. Gilt ripple moulding and frame. The temple-like, multi-structured cabinet can be opened up in two ways. Mounted on four ebonised ball feet. Straight, contoured frame with a drawer. Above it a folding compartment with four ebonised half-columns and a continuous row of gold-framed, window-like niches, set with agate. Veneered on the inside, with star-shaped marquetry and mirroring, lined in combed top paper. Additional small drawers on the sides. A slightly overhanging edge at the top and a further hinged compartment in the curved cornice. This also veneered on the inside, with star-shaped inlays. Gilt, partially engraved brass fittings. The keys and brass locks probably of later date. Old mirror glass. Damage due to age. Some of the tortoiseshell veneer has been lost. The gilding is rubbed. The locks replaced. 32 x 45 x 33 cm.
