In silver-plated, fully sculptured bronze cast, finely chased in places. A (Bavarian) lion couchant with red rubies for eyes, on a small plinth. The underside lavishly engraved (tr.): "To my amiable benefactor, Baron Karl von Eichthal, with gratitude. Wenzel R?sler, Architect". Signs of age. The plinth knocked. Dimensions 4 x 8.5 x 4.5 cm.
Karl Freiherr von Eichthal (*1813 Munich; ?1880 Miesbach) was a Royal Bavarian court banker and Royal Bavarian chamberlain. As entrepreneur, he was a co-founder of the Bayerische Vereinsbank. Thanks to his engagement, two new districts were built in Munich, the G?rtnerplatzviertel and the French Quarter in Haidhausen. He joined forces with the Frankfurt branch of the Rothschilds to finance the Bavarian Eastern Railway Company.
