Made of three parts. Marble, wood and mosaic inlays. Mounted on a solid, partially carved and brightly painted wooden pedestal, the impressive spiral column set with colourful, partially gilt mosaic stones. Topped with a chiselled leaf capital in Carrara marble. Dimensions 148 x 33 x 33 cm. Slight signs of age. Minor knocks in the marble.
Note: A very similar column, dating from the 12th/13th century, was sold by Sotheby's in London as a Romanesque Paschal candelabrum for £146,500 under Lot 7 on 3 December 2014.
