Thangka of Prajnaparamita, the Mother of Buddhas, surrounded by 500 Buddhas, Tibet, 16th or 17th century, gouache and gold on cotton, 37 x 28.75 inches, in a cherry wood frame 45 x 35 inches, central figure with peaceful appearance, one face and four hands with one pair held at the heart, the other holding lotus flowers, flanked by two bodhisattvas, and 500 buddhas in robes of gold leaf, each placed in boxes in alternating shades of blue and red holding four or five figures.
