Huang Shulin (1672-1756) Printed in woodblock technique in ten juan stitch-bound into four volumes of quarto size, the critical notes of Ji Yun printed in red in the borders, and printed with red punctuation, three pages bearing unidentified collector's seals (including: Hong Shun, Shun, Wang Zuoqi, Peng Cheng Yu Zhi, and others).
NOTE: The present owner notes this work (original written circa 500 A.D.), as one of the most famous and respected treatises of literary theory and criticism up to its day, retaining its importance in Chinese history. The use of commentary in red printing is unusual in Qing dynasty publishing, having lost popularity after the middle of the 17th century.
