This rare circular stoneware, or porcelaneous, dish or tray was made during the Western Jin Dynasty (AD 265 - 316). It is heavily-potted and coated in quite a thick translucent pale green, or celadon, glaze that is crackled in places. The tray has a circular compartment in its centre surrounded by six other compartments, presumably each to contain different foodstuffs. The flat underside is unglazed and marks of the firing pads on which it stood in the kiln can be seen. This tray was made at the yue kilns in northeastern Zhejiang province. Diameter 21 cm (8.25 inches). It is in fine condition with no restoration or repair. Western Jin Dynasty (AD 265 – 316).
Provenance: from the collection of the late Brian Page (1938-2018), the well-known Oriental art and antiques dealer from Brighton.
