「慕尼克繪畫學院」是歐洲歷史悠久、人才輩出的藝術搖籃。米勒(Ferdinand Freiherr von Miller)在1900年到1918年擔任這個學院的院長。這幅『沉睡的米勒』肖像畫就是在這個時期的原創作品,畫中這位元戴著紅帽、挺著大肚子、睡姿安祥的人,就是當時的院長米勒先生。

Munich School (Greek: Σχολ? του Μον χου) is the name given to a group of painters who worked in Munich or were trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Munich (German: Münchner Akademie der Bildenden Künste) between 1850 and 1918. In the second half of the 19th century the Academy became one of the most important institutions in Europe for training artists and attracted students from across Europe and the United States.
From 1900 to 1918 the academy's director was Ferdinand Freiherr von Miller.
