[X] CONCH / PINTADINE CARVED FROM TWO BATS
China, Guangzhou, Qing Dynasty, 19th century period
The shell with iridescent reflections is sculpted in a nuanced palette: from engraving to thicker relief. The decoration shows two bats caught in full flight and whose gaze is animated by inlaid black stones. Around, rocks and reeds (splinters and lacks).
H: 20 cm - W: 22 cm
Another pintadine is attached, this one decorated with a multitude of characters, processions, carps and auspicious symbols such as Buddha's hands / digitised lemons (accidents and misses).
H: 19.5 cm - W: 26.2 cm
Note: In Chinese symbolism, two bats facing each other embody double fortune and/or double happiness.
