TRUMPET VASE IN BLUE-WHITE PORCELAIN, YENYEN
China, 19th-20th century period
The upper and lower parts, similar to trumpet flags, connected by a central knot. The decoration, executed in cobalt-blue, emphasises the structure of the vase and takes up motifs from the archaic bronzes of the Shang Dynasty: friezes of festoons/stylized banana leaves meet at the top and bottom; friezes of teeth frame the central knot; geometric motifs, notably Essa and Greek, come to form Taotian masks on the middle part.
