CIRCA 1860, BLUE CROSSED SWORDS MARKS, PRESSNUMMER 8 AND INCISED F191 Modelled by Ernst August Leuteritz, each of 'Warwick Vase' form, decorated possibly after Thorwaldsen, with a continuous frieze of Bacchanalian figures and centaurs, the handles modelled as serpents with acantus leaf terminals 10 7/8 in. (27.7 cm.) high
Ernst August Leuteritz was employed as a designer in 1836 and from 1849 to 1886 he held the post of chief artistic director and top modeller at Meissen. See Robert R?ntgen, The Book of Meissen, Atglen, 1996, p. 206, fig. 320, for a comparable vase with similar enamelled decoration developed by Leuteritz in the mid 19th century in response to renewed interest in the Renaissance style of Limoges enamel decoration.
