A pair of Chinese bronze guardian lions dating from the 19th century. The pair stand on elaborately decorated pedestals and have a cub and sphere under 1 paw. Dimensions: 8 inches tall X 3 inches wide; 20.3 cm tall X 7.6 cm wide. All measurements are approximate.
Condition Report They are in good condition with minimal age wear.
Provenance From the estate of Albert T. Quon in Beverly Hills, California. Mr. Quon was born in China and came to the US as a teenager. He graduated from USC in 1928 and established a successful import/export business in both China and the US. He was the first Chinese-American to purchase property in Beverly Hills. He also became the first Asian-American admitted to the Los Angeles Rotary Club, and the first Asian-American to serve on the Board of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce. He donated millions of dollars to his Alma mater, USC. There is a statue of him on the USC campus and a classroom was named after him. Lot 196-228 from our auction in Sept 8, 2018 were from the same estate.
