Ming dynastyPotted with thick walls, the rounded shoulders swelling then tapering towards the recessed foot with a neatly trimmed edge, surmounted by a short neck tapering towards the rolled-rimmed-mouth, covered overall in a green glaze except for the unglazed foot rim edge burnt orange in the firing. 14in (35.5cm) high

明 龍泉窰青釉梅瓶As utilitarian vessels, extant undecorated Longquan meiping from the early Ming dynasty are relatively rare. The tapering neck of this example, indicates that it would have had a cover similar to the example from the the Tsui Museum of Art, Hong Kong, and sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 1 December 2010, lot 3104. Another example with a cover dated to the Yuan or early Ming dynasty is illustrated in Selected Treasures of Chinese Art: Min Chiu Society Thirtieth Anniversary Exhibition, Hong Kong, 1990, no. 125.Three slightly larger examples in the collection of the National Palace Museum, Taipei, one with its cover, are illustrated in Green Longquan Celadon of the Ming Dynasty, Taipei, 2009, cat. nos 65, 66 and 67. A 15th century example was sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 1 June 2011, lot 3815; and another dated early 15th century was sold at Sotheby's London, 10th October 2004, lot 561.
