Description Two Similar Chinese Painted Pottery Guardian Figures
Tang Dynasty
Each molded in mirror image of the other, each with legs spread and firmly planted on a kidney shaped base, dressed in layered armor and fitted black painted helmet with upturned edges and topped by a finial, the deeply carved face with a moustache and painted facial wiskers, traces on black white and red pigments, surface encrustation.
Heights 24 inches.

Condition Report Surface loss and encrustation primarily on the front, more visible pigment left on the reverse. Some pigments restored. One with minor loss to tip of one had edge.
