original from the Huangtao kiln in Hunan Province, 20 cm high, post Qing Dynasty; together with a pair of millefleurs famille rose vases, about 9.5 cm high, both with Qianlong mark but not of the period; and two other vases, both with Qianlong marks but neither of the period (5)Provenance: From a Private English Collection, formed by the late J.C.Wright, Esq. during the years circa 1968 to circa 1985.Margaret Medley in 'Tang Pottery and Porcelain' ( Faber 1981) examines the Huang tradition in her chapter on the Northern High-Fired Wares of the Tang Dynasty, making the fascinating assertion that the ancestor of Chun was to be found in the mottled blue glazes of these slow cooling wares. Please note that this is a group lot where condition may vary from object to object. Some damage extant.
