Description Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd century CE. Skillfully cast via the lost wax (cire perdue) process, a statue of a nude boy, standing with his right arm extended outward, his right leg slightly advanced, and his head gently tilted. The sculptor of this piece demonstrated immense skill, bringing this youthful body to life with its fleshy quality and playful pose. The boy's expression is somewhat cherubic, with wide open eyes, a petite nose, apple cheeks, and a happy smile - all topped by wispy locks that are short enough to reveal his cup-shaped ears. Size: 2.4" W x 4" H (6.1 cm x 10.2 cm); 5.75" H (14.6 cm) on included custom stand. Published: J. Eisenberg, Gods & Mortals, Bronzes of the Ancient World (1989), no. 124.
