Description Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. mid 20th century CE. A striking wooden finial, made to adorn the prow of a canoe, featuring a dramatic and abstract carved dragon whose head and scaled neck are shown in profile. Floral motifs erupt from the head and neck, forming a fanciful crest. Pretty sky blue and grey pigment give the figure a delightful color palette. Condition Report Repair near top of crest; this is well done and unobtrusive. Small areas of inactive insect damage, mostly on the dragon's snout. A few small chips, nicks, and scratches commensurate with age. However, overall in very nice condition with bright remaining pigment.
