Description Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, Guanacaste / Nicoya region, ca. 200 to 600 CE. An adorable armadillo pendant, finely carved and string cut from a beautiful piece of greenstone, and presenting endearing features - raised petite ears atop its head, a pointy snout, cute little feet, and a long tail as well as meticulously delineated horizontally ridged scales covering its body. In addition to this endearing form, the stone itself is inherently attractive boasting rich, deep verdant hues with seafoam green inclusions, and the piece is drilled behind the animal's neck so that it may be worn as a pendant. Size: 2.2" L x 0.75" H (5.6 cm x 1.9 cm)
Provenance: ex Craig Hendrix collection, South Carolina, USA; ex Charles Craig Jr. collection, Costa Rica, acquired in the 1960s and 1970s
