Description Marie-Jules Justin (French, 1847-1891). "The Dreamer" 1860. Signed and dated on lower right. A playful painting depicting a young man sleeping on a garden bench with three young ladies at balustrade above showering him with rose petals. All are dressed in satin and lace, and the genre is reminiscent of Rococo fete galante paintings depicting outdoor amusements of French upper class society. Housed in a lovely gold gesso frame. Size (canvas): 19.1" W x 31.6" H (48.5 cm x 80.3 cm); (frame): 25.2" W x 37.7" H (64 cm x 95.8 cm)
