The form of this bowl is often referred to as an alms bowl. It was made at one of the Longquan kilns in Zhejiang province. It is heavily-potted and coated in a thick and finely-crackled pale green glaze. The foot ring is square cut with the recessed base, where unglazed, revealing the pale grey body. There are incised bands and geometric patterns to the outer wall just below the rim, and carved lotus leaf patterns surrounding the foot. The inner surface is undecorated save for the glaze and there is an unglazed "stacking" ring in the centre. Diameter 12.75 cm. This bowl is in very good condition with just a tiny surface chip to the glaze at the rim edge. There is no restoration or repair. Song or Yuan Dynasty (c. 13th – 14th Century AD).
Provenance: from the collection of the late Brian Page (1938-2018), the well-known Oriental art and antiques dealer from Brighton.
