A LARGE Chinese Warring States Pottery Jar with Oxford TL Test (475 - 221 BC). An exceptionally large and impressive pottery jar made from a fine-grained grey pottery, relatively highly-fired, having a distinct ring to it when tapped. It has a wide mouth with a thick rolled rim. It is decorated simply, yet effectively, with raised bands surrounding the body just above its waist. Just above the concave base is a small purpose-made hole, presumably a drain hole. In places on the surface are the marks left by, and the remains of ancient root/plants growths as well as calcified deposits from its long burial. Height 48 cm (19 inches), diameter 54 cm (21.25 inches). With Thermoluminescence Analysis Report from Oxford Authentication. Warring States period (475 – 221 BC).
Provenance: from the collection of the late Brian Page (1938-2018), the well-known Oriental art and antiques dealer from Brighton.
