Notes Footnote: The Ruyi scepter symbolizes power and good fortune. Bamboo symbolizes the ideals of a Confucian scholar because both are perceived as upright, strong, and resilient while still being gentle, graceful and refined. The pine tree is a symbol for longevity because it is an evergreen and can endure severe winters. Lingzhi is the sacred fungus of immortality that grows on the trunks or roots of trees including the pine.
