Two Japanese ARROWHEADS (YANONE) Japan, Edo Period. Possibly 16th/17th century. The first is a Karimata type arrowhead, the second a Togari-Ya point arrowhead.
Dimensions Length: 23,5 and 16,5 cm
Notes Note: Karimata type arrowheads were used not only for battle but also for hunting large game. They are sometimes referred to as 'rope cutters' The older karimata were more plain and the points are at a more acute angle. In the 16th and 17th century they were commonly pierced and elaborately chased. Most during this period have a single pierced area between the Nakago (tang) and the bottom of the "V" groove. The Togari-Ya or pointed arrowheads look like a small Yari (spear) and were used only for war and are armor piercing arrows.
