Rare early 18th Century German engraved glass goblet, attributed to Christian Gottfried Schneider (1710-1773), Warmbrunn, Silesia, circa 1730-40, of dodecagonal form, finely engraved with mottos 'Honour & Honesty' and 'May we Lieve [sic] all The Days of our Live's [sic]', the remainder finely engraved with landscape vignettes, scroll work and a larger panel of Orpheus playing a lyre observed by animals, a stag, lion, fox, dog, rabbits etc, the bowl with projecting arched panels to the base alternately intaglio-carved with landscapes and flowers, on tapering faceted stem with basal knop, the foot under-cut with oval panels, 8.2cm diameter x 13.5cm high Literature - For a footless beaker with similar decoration attributed to Schnieder and featuring a cover, see Olga Drahotova, European Glass, Peerage Books 1983, p.113, plate 77 Condition: May have had a cover.
