The combination of green enamel and carved or molded relief decoration can also be seen on various Qianlong mark and period wares. A green-enameled gu-form hat stand with dragon design in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, is illustrated in Qingdai danse you ciqi tezhan mulu (Special exhibition of monochrome glazed porcelain of the Qing dynasty), Taipei, 1981, no. 48; and a green-enameled lantern vase carved with dragons amidst waves was exhibited in Hong Kong Museum of Art and illustrated in In Pursuit of Antiquities: Min Chiu Society 40th Anniversary Exhibition, Hong Kong, 2001, no. 187.The present 'narcissus' bowl and its companion, lot 1843, were formerly in the collection of Dr. Robert Kemper, an avid collector with a passionate interest in Asian Art. He was instrumental in forming the Asian Art Society in Cincinnati in 1976, which promotes the exchange of ideas among people interested in both collecting and appreciating Asian Art. The Asian Art Society also works with and supports the curator of Asian Art at the Cincinnati Art Museum, where a number of works from Dr. Kemper’s collection reside today.
