An umimatsu (sea-pine) netsuke of a rat on a flowering tree stump
By Seiyodo Tomiharu (1733-1810), Iwami Province, dated 1794A small rat peering out of a hole near the base of the stump, two large flowers blooming to its left, the mainly dark material with some slight pale patches; signed Iwami-no-kuni Enokawa Seiyodo Shi Tomiharu kyonen rokujunisai shite kore o chokoku toki ni Kansei kinoe-tora natsu nari (carved at the age of sixty-two by the Eno River in Iwami Province by Seiyodo Tomiharu in the kinoe-tora year of Kansei [1794]). 5.3cm (2 1/8in) high.
