Staff fitting depicting a horned dragon with opened mouth. The Warring States period saw the use of highly stylized zoomorphic figures for decoration on everything from vessels to weapons. The artistic forms were so dramatically altered that the figures often appear to the modern eye as little more than geometric shapes. This staff fitting is a perfect example of the trend, depicting a horned dragon with opened mouth. Brilliant silver inlay has been carefully fitted into the bronze and worked smooth, accenting many of the features of the mighty beast, such as the horns, muzzle and large eyes. This style of inlaid work has recently been copied extensively (new silver on old pieces). This one is original. Warring States c. 475-221 BCE Dimension: 6" long x 1 7/8" wide
