注脚
Regaled by angels, the double-chinned ruler is fastidiously kept with jewels, finely trimmed facial hair, and a brilliant jama. The artist took great pains to capture its light crinkles and delicate pleats.?Highlights of rose are repeated throughout the composition, from the angels bestowing Anand Singh's crown, to the flower between his fingers, the hem of his sash, and further to his matching scabbard and pink slippers, uniting the painting's rich, complementary color scheme.Indergarh was a vassal of Bundi and very few portraits originating from here are known. A close comparison can be found in the facial features of a portrait of Raja Rao Chhatrasal, circa 1790, in the Bickford Collection (Czuma, Indian Art, Cleveland, 1975, no.84).ProvenanceRay E.
