A large Chinese gilt bronze seated Buddha dating to the Ming dynasty. The Buddha is seated in mudra on a double lotus stand. Dimensions are: 28 in. tall X 19 in. wide; 71.1 cm tall X 48.3 cm wide. All measurements are approximate. Condition: The gilt is work in areas and there is some chipping to the surface. Provenance: From Mrs. Fullerton in New Jersey. Her father, Maurice Etangs, was chief of police in Tianjin, China and lived there from 1935 to 1945. These items were collected during that time. A similar seated bronze Buddha statue from the Ming Dynasty was sold at Bonhams, New York, September 15, 2014, Lot 8083.
