The rectangular screen frame finely and intricately carved in varying layers of relief through the rich cinnabar red, the middle portion painted with yellow background and finely inlaid with jade and other precious material, the center of the decoration having a white jade carved planter with flowers carved from various shapes of jade as a jade vase and elephant adorn one side and jade fruit and scholar's items adorn the other side, the bottom panel carved with bats amid a composite floral scroll, all of which are supported on an elaborately carved stand with a skirt further carved with bats flying amid lotus scrolls. Dimensions of the frame are: 22 1/2 in. tall X 22 3/4 in. wide, 57.2 cm tall X 57.8 cm wide. All measurements are approximate. Condition: Some age wear. Provenance: From a collector in San Francisco.
