Late Qing dynastyThe first a yellow ground silk kesi jifu robe with dragons amid clouds with shou medallions above a lishui border; together with a smaller example in summer weight silk gauze, embroidered with dragon roundels and bats on a blue ground. 16 1/2in (42cm); 11in (28 cm) high (2).

清晚期 廟堂用微形黃地緙絲吉服及藍地納紗龍袍These two charming miniature robes were made to adorn statues in a temple. Taking their design and symbolism from the regulated fashion of the Qing court, these small robes would endow the statue with a position within the Qing bureaucracy.Another example of a miniature court robe made for a statue is in the collection of the Minneapolis Institute of Art, 42.50.1
