Large Ziegler Mahal Carpet West Iran, circa 1880 The terracotta field of angular vines enclosed by wide indigo borders of large flowerheads and meandering vines flanked by double guard stripes, 543cm by 400cm. One end with minor losses into outer plain guard stripe and fringes reduced. One end with very minor losses. Selvedges original but fraying and binding cords missing in sections. Pile generally fair, some wear and one slit approx 25cm long. Several small holes. Small areas of old repiling.
