Description With applied inscription 'Hans Skovgard, Anne Parsberg, 1577'; indistinctly marked on the base.
14 x 14 1/2 x 10 1/2 in.
Note:?This model was based on a large silver-gilt cup and cover known as the 'Rose Flower'. The cup was a 1577 baptism gift from Danish noble couple Hans Skovgaard and Anne Parsberg to their godson Christian IV, the eldest son of King Frederik II. The symbolic meaning behind the extravagant gift was a tasteful way of showing appreciation of the King's generous wedding gift. It signifies the larger cordial relationship of the King and the Danish court where gift giving on many levels was ritual. The original 'Rose Flower' resides in The National Museum of Denmark, Copenhagen.
