Signed Hasabe Kunishige, Tanto and Later Scabbardmid-14th century, Aikuchi style without Tsuba (guard), in Shirasaya (wooden storage scabbard); Hira Zukuri (flat blade); Nie and Nioi pattern Hamon (temper); topped with silver foil Habaki (ferrule); in fresh polish (LOA in Shirasaya 17.75 in.); Included is a Late Edo Period (mid-19th century) black lacquered Saya (scabbard) with silver mounts and gilt inlays depicting cranes flying among the clouds; a small silver Kodzuka (dagger) (8 in. overall) fits into an integral sheath on the scabbard's outer surface; the verso of the scabbard has a pierced mount for the Sageo, a silk suspension cord tied to the Obi, the kimono's sash (LOA 17 3/8 in.)
