Description Bronze with inscription Tibet 17th century Dimensions: Height approx 8 cm by 7 cm each Weight: 378,2 grams both together Two shrines with depictions of a fierceful Mahakala, a wrathful emanation of Avalokiteshvara. One panel shows the deity dancing with fiery hair, wearing a skull necklace, holding a khatvanga staff, curved knife and skull cup filled with blood. The deity is surrounded by flames. Two columns on the sides are decorated with various symbols or objects and inscriptions fill the bottom line. On the back is a double vajra symbol. The other plate shows Mahakala riding a horse with four arms holding a dagger, a khatvanga staff, a damaru drum and one hand is forming the mudra to ward off evil. The face is gruesome and a crescent moon decorates the fiery hair. The background is filled with fire. The back of the plate shows two golden fish, one of the Eight Auspicious Symbols, representing fertility and abundance.
