The painting is attributed to Zheng Banqiao also known as Zheng Xie (1693-1765). His calligraphy is prominent for bold, strong lines instead of elegant scripture as he was drawing influence from Han-Dynasty clerical script. Due to his distinctive artistic style and strong character he was later part called one of the Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou.
