but later, the heavily potted spreading circular base rising to a central stem supporting the bowl with gently flaring sides, the footrim painted with a series of ruyi and undulating tendrils with flowering lotus, the exterior sides of the bowl painted with continuous scene of phoenix and five-clawed scaly dragon, the interior well of the bowl with alternating wave and cloud scrolls picked out in over glaze iron-red enamels with qilin, the lower central well of the bowl with moulded five-clawed dragon roundel, six-character mark to the upper rim of the bowl, height 31.5cm, diameter 37.5cm.
PROVENANCE
Purchased in the early 1990s from a Country House sale in Yorkshire (sale unknown), it remained in the hands of the private collector for nearly 30 years and thence by descent.
