McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919), his new vice presidential running mate and future 26th U.S. President, are depicted in two roundels surrounded by elaborate foliate and scroll decoration and Roman imagery. Entitled in Gothic script: "Inauguration of the President / of the United States / March fourth / Nineteen hundred and one"; and accompanied by the names and facsimile signatures of members of the Committee of Arrangements at lower right. Intaglio engraved by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing but without imprint. The entrance ticket is stamped "300" and bears the stamped name of "DM Ramsdell / Sergeant-at-Arms, U.S. Senate" verso. The right margin is perforated where the ticket receipt was removed. Expected surface wear including minor wrinkles and isolated stains recto and verso. After Garret Hobart, McKinley's vice president during his first term, had died in 1899, McKinley had carried on without one. Theodore Roosevelt would serve as McKinley's vice president for only six months, between March - September 1901.
