James Monroe & John Quincy Adams Signed Scalloped Ship's Passport in Museum-Quality FrameA stately 1p document signed by 5th U.S. President James Monroe (1758-1831) as "James Monroe" at lower right. Dated June 20, 1823. Countersigned by John Quincy Adams (1767-1848), U.S. Secretary of State, as "John Quincy Adams" at lower right, and by an unidentified Charlestown, Massachusetts harbor official at bottom. Partly handwritten and partly printed on vellum. With a blind embossed presidential seal at lower left with some loss. A charming vignette of a sailing ship and lighthouse at top has a scalloped edge. Expected wrinkles and folds and isolated light soiling mostly apparent along the folds. Else very good. The document is flanked by engraved portraits of James Monroe and John Quincy Adams, with respective name plates. Matted and archivally framed behind museum-quality UV ray filtering glass and document separators in a handsome rosewood finished frame. Not examined out of the frame. Sight size: 9.25" x 13.75."
