Description U.S. Life-Saving Service Lyle line-thrower gun, circa 1905. Designed by Cpt. David L. Lyle for the U.S.L.S.S., the precursor of the U.S. Coast Guard. Gun fires a 20 pound projectile attached to a shot line to facilitate water rescues. Cast bronze barrel with 2.5 bore, marked "R.I.W. No 750 1905 T.L.A." Right trunnion marked "US/LSS." Converted to Post-1935 ignition system that used primers. Mounted in iron and wood carriage. Includes quoin of mire (elevation block), sponge, and rammer. 24" long gun. Carriage: 10 1/4" x 30 1/2" x 10 1/2". Weighs approximately 185 lbs. Shipping: This lot does not qualify for in house shipping. We will provide a list of our recommended shippers. Condition: Carriage metal fixtures heavily rusted. Wood part of carriage intact. Bronze canon has light corrosion on outside and bore.
