Description A GLAZED AND PAINTED CERAMIC BOTTLE
Korea, Goryeo dynasty, 12th century
26 cm high
Provenance: ambassador Francesco Rausi.
This bottle recalls in shape some examples produced in northern China between the end of the Tang dynasty (618-907) and the period of the Five Dynasties (907-979). However, the pastel tone of the céladon glaze and the inspired attitude with which the ornamentation is conducted exemplify a taste that is typical of Korean ceramic culture.
Similar bottles are in the Minneapolis Institute of Art (inv. 2015.79.480) and in the Philadelphia Museum of Art (inv. F1929-6-483).
