Description A LACQUERED AND GILT WOOD COMB CABINET, KUSHIDAI

Rectangular section, five drawers, two larger and three smaller, on the external surface branches of flowers in hiramaki-e, the handles of the drawers in gilded metal with incised floral motifs.

Provenance: Italian private collection.
This kind of cabinet was available to women of the wealthier classes in Japan since the Edo period. Inside its drawers were placed all the tools for hair care, from combs to ointments, from pins to mirrors.
