Description Painting on black lacquer background, Tibet, 19th to early 20th century. THE BODHISATTVA MANJUSHRI Manjushri, literally, "the sweet one", is holding up his flaming sword, while the other side features the book of Prajnaparamita on a lotus, the book of "transcendent wisdom" with the radiant jewel dharmaratna on it symbolizing Buddhist doctrine. Manjushri is surrounded by the white lotus, while the golden halo features rays of light. This tsakali painting is located in the middle of a black leaf in the elongated Tibetan book format. THE GODDESS GREEN TARA surrounded by a golden halo and blue lotus blossoms, the Green Tara (Syamatara) – a protector against all dangers – sits on a lotus throne and has one leg resting on a separate, small Lotus pedestal. Her hand held down is performing the gesture of wish fulfillment (varadamudra). This tsakali painting is located within a frame of gold lines in the middle of a black sheet in the Tibetan book format.Condition: Good condition, minor fading of colours.Provenance: Austrian private collection.
