A painted lacquer and wicker 'birds and peonies' box and cover
18th centuryOf circular form, set on a flaring foot, the cover painted and gilt with two long-tailed birds perched on flowering peony branches issuing from rockwork, the sides in red wicker, the recessed base divided into two sections and inscribed 丁亥桂林 'Dinghai Guilin' dated (1707 or 1767) made in Guilin city (Guangxi province) and 洪一俊辦 'Hong yi jun ban' made by Hong Yijun, the interior further signed 洪 俊辦 'Hong Jun ban'. 39.2cm (15.1/2in) diam.
